Well I had to make an unscheduled trip to my mom's to fix her garage door opener yesterday evening. Got a chance to talk to the guy with the recon tails. He's got their tails, 3rd brake and the under the tailgate brake/turn signal LEDs. Didn't install them himself (which doesn't surprise me), but bought from a local truck cap/accessory dealer and had them install everything. He didn't feel the install had any issues, since he says it didn't take them very long to install everything - about 2 1/2 hours. Fit and finish looked perfect to me.

Wondering if maybe you got the wrong year lights??? His truck is an '06 btw...

Sounds like a given, but you ordered and received the correct tails, right?
As far as I know their the correct tails... Do you have any close ups of your lights? Did you use any weather stripping?

I can not find any close ups, nor did I use weather stripping.

What concerns me is you stated in your original post that there is a consistent gouge on both lights. Maybe you should post pics of the lights installed or not so we can help you a little more.

I did have to adjust the male pin on the inside to snug up a little tighter.

I just pulled the trigger and ordered a set of LED tails.

Phillips LumiLed's. Crossing my fingers they will fit and work properly.

Default The update

I had a chance to spend more time with the tail-lights. I had to make heavy modifications to the mounting hardware, use thicker bulb seals and buy/cut my own weather-stripping. I think I have improved if not solved the issues I was having with the tail-lights. I like the look of the multi LEDS, but other than that I have nothing good to say about the Recon 07 Ram Tail-lights. This was a case where paying more for a set of lights did not result in any better quality-- than the quality of a cheap set.

I haven't had the time to improve the third brake light mounting either.. However I did notice when I have the cargo light on it flickers.

I attempted to voice my concerns with Recon and they did nothing to make things right. I was originally planning on exclusively lighting my truck with all of their product. They basically had no answer and claimed some trucks have these issues. Considering the lack of adequate customer support, its safe to assume I will not return to Recon in the future and I would recommend staying away from the Recon name. BTW the parts were stamped made in Taiwan, no wonder the quality sucks!

I have the hella led tail lights on my 08 and haven't had any major issues as of yet. When they first got put on my left turn signal would flash super fast as if to indicate i had a bulb out, but after a day or two of normal use it went back to normal. I guess the computer and the led's just needed some time to communicate with one another lol

Thanks for posting these issues. I too have had issues with Recon customer support, or lack thereof.

My LED tail light strip i got from them a few years ago has at least a dozen LED's not working.

I went with Spyder LED tail lights and they work perfectly and fit great. Only $139.95 delivered.
