Lately I've been spending many hours researching, trying to find helpful information about swapping a Hemi into my 2003 4.7L Dodge Ram 1500. I even joined 3 separate forums but to no avail! It seems that there is very little information about this swap, but heaps of curiosity about the swap. So I thought I'd start a new thread where everyone can compile information together and put it here. I have seen many threads about others experiences with this type of swap but they do not make clear how they did it or what they had to buy to make the swap compatible with the truck which really sucksss. Please feel free to post helpful links and information about this swap.

For my 2003 truck what I have learned is that an 03'-05' hemi would be the easiest swap meaning the least wiring trouble and most re-useable parts/sensors. I'm going to list some information I have learned. 1. The transmission is re-useable 2wd and 4x4 2.The 5.7L hemi will bolt right into he motor mounts 3. I will need a new wiring harness with a new fusebox.

I'm not sure how much this information correlates with the 4.7l to hemi swap. But in my mind if its the same engine the electronics should be the same or very similar. A member on that forum said you could just splice the 4.7l wiring harness into a hemi connector. But I'm not too sure about that.

When swapping a Hemi into a 03' Ram , it's not necessary to change the fuse box. AKA ~ PDC. "Power Distribution Center". The wiring harness from the headlights to the white plug under the dash , and everything in between , is what needs to be changed. It's not a difficult swap but there are a few other things that need to be changed to make things like A/C , cruise control and EVAP PURGE , work correctly..
The 4.7 , to 5.7 Hemi Dakota swap is a completely different story. I used my 02' PDC and wired the 03' Hemi harness into it. So yes , that is possible . There are several ways , and options when doing any motor swap and the amount of time and work you put into the swap will depend on the money you have to invest. I didn't have money , so I had to fabricate my own motor mounts and do my own wiring. A POOR MAN Swap...I also notched my cross~member instead of making a new oil pan. My cruise didn't work nor did the A/C.. But the truck ran like a raped ape with small changes like, and electric fan , cold air intake , cat~converter removal , and custom exhaust .
