Default Stalling/ Evap Leak?

Hello. I have an 02 ram with the 4.7l engine and I'm around 81,1xx miles. CEL came on awhile ago, checked it and it read out as a small evap leak. Couldn't find the leak so took it to my mechanic, he found the leak and the parts are on order (apparently only the dealer can get them). He turned off the light and after 150+ miles its still out. An hour ago I had gotten off the freeway, went probably a mile then got stopped at a light and the truck stalled out. Never done this before. It started back up and had no issues. I checked to see if any codes came up (no CEL on) and the same evap leak came up but nothing else. I haven't heard of an evap leak causing this kind of issue before. I did read that the EGR could be the culprit, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

From what I read the mechanic ordered the parts but has not installed them yet? What parts did he order?
I had the same issue, and it was a funky shaped hose on top of the EVAP cannister. There was a split on mine, I was able to black electrical tape it back together as a temporary fix. The EVAP cannister is under the cab just in front of the bed, the crack on mine was right on top and only gapped occasionally causing a code to throw.
Check that and see if it is the cause, I would bet the new parts fix your issues.

That's correct, the parts have not yet been installed. There are two cracked hoses one 4" and another 5" I believe. Pretty sure they are right beside the canister, he showed me a picture so I would know what I was looking for when I put them on but I can't remember exactly right now. He said they're pretty obvious to find. I've just never heard of any issues due to an evap leak. I've always heard that it's just polluting the air but that there should't be an power lose and certainly not stalling. Should I maybe think about a tune-up/ new plugs and wires too? Sometimes it has a rough start where I feel it isn't going to start so I give it a little gas and it comes to life. With 80,000 on it there are probably going to be more issues popping up, just trying to cover the bases.

A major evap leak would certainly cause stalling.

Why would a mechanic have to order hoses and clamps? The hose is sold by the foot (for around a buck per depending on diameter) off rolls in ALL auto parts stores and the clamps can be bought there or any hardware store for less than a buck a piece.
Why would you pay a mechanic to replace something that would take a sharp knife or cutters and a screwdriver and 10 minutes of your time to replace?

You should maybe think about ANY and ALL maintenance that is due according the the schedule in your owners manual...

I asked him the same question about just buying some line but he said once I see the lines I will understand. I trust this mechanic pretty well. He didn't charge me to find the leak and he's giving me the parts at cost. I just noticed the CEL came back on so I'm going to check that when I get out of class.

If it's the lines at the canister, there is plenty of play to cut the split ends off and re-clamp using a decent clamp - that's the issue 99% of the time, Chrysler uses the cheapest, cheesiest clamps I've ever seen.

This issue comes up weekly, do a search in this section. Guys DIY this every day. Dunno what would make your hoses "special". If you trust they guy and he's cheap - great. Me personally, I would fix my damn truck TODAY...
