So my CEL came on last week and got a evaporative emission leak (small leak) code. Gas cap was tight yet i also got the Gascap words on odometer from time to time. Got under my truck looking for the vapor canister and in the process found a round black canister with 1 hose going in and 1 going out down by the fuel tank on drivers side. It has air running threw it and it has a hole in it which i assume is not suppose to be there since it looked like a rock or something put it there. I called dodge dealership, local auto parts stores and all the friends i could think of that might know what it is and no one knows. Iv heard it all from Vapor canister, leak detection pump, purge canister ect. Im not sure if this has anything to do with the leak but its a good start. I put some plastic epoxy on it and right now its drying but can someone try and see if they know what this is?

 

I believe that would be your LDP (Leak Detection Pump) filter and no I don't believe it should have a hole in it. I'd say you found your evap leak...

 

I tried googlin the part but nothing came up that looks like that. Could it possibly be aftermarket or something and just looks different?

 

Well it's hard to tell from the pic, but the best way to know is if it's connected directly to the purge pump with one of those lines. If you took your pic from farther away, showing surrounding parts it would make it easier. The LDP filter connected on one side to the pump via a very short hose. If it's got a short hose going to the pump it'd have to be the filter...

 

Ok when I get home I'll take a better pic. One of the hoses is about a foot or 2 long and goes to some part on the gas tank. The other end goes all the way up to the motor

 

Its the evap filter, u can get it at the dealership excuse me stealership what everyone likes to call it. should b no more than 40 bucks
