ADVICE FOR A NEWBIE...1500 VS 2500 / GAS VS DIESEL
I'm not sure about this, but 350,000 is just the first rebuild of the engine. although the downside of the 5.9isb is that it is not wet sleeved(removable cylinder sleeves) it is still built much better and beefier than the Ford and Chevy.
now about the rest of the truck, I'm not sure but as long as you take care of everything I dont see why the rest of the vehichle shouldnt last as long as the engine since it is one of the most warn parts.

I was in the same situation deciding between the 1500 w/Hemi and the 2500 w/CTD, after doing a lot of research (actually driving my wife nuts). I test drove both of them, with the CTD first and the Hemi second and I can say that I was very dissappointed in the Hemi compared to the CTD. No comparison in power. I have owned Dodge most all of my life and just traded in a 99' 1500 Ram QC Sport with the 360 and it struggled pulling our camper and my fiberglass boat boat. I talked to a lot of people that own both vehicles and the average was 14mpg for the Hemi and 19mpg for the CTD. To me that was a big difference in gas/fuel cost. I was looking at fully loaded vehicles with leather and everything. The total cost between the 1500 and the 2500 was only $4400. With the 2.9% financing the Chrysler was offering, there was not much difference in finance charges. Plus the resale value looked to be much higher with the CTD compared to the Hemi. So to get to the point, I went with the 2500 w/CTD and I know that I made the right decision after I feel that power everything I take off. Good luck with your decision.

I've already turned 250K in a 98 Cummins Ram.
Only work being done was repairs from a collision.
