Default 4.10 to 3.55?

i am wanting to go from 4.10 to 3.55 because i do a lot of cross country driving and i need to be able to drive at higher speeds on the highway without the high rpm. dont want to spend a furtune so im looking to trade. went to the dealer and they told me i have 4.10's in 11.5 (on the back) and 9.25 (on the front) corperate axles. truck is 2004,1 ton, single axle, 4x4, 180,000 miles. can this be done?

Well I'm sure that your ride was made with a 3.55 option so why couldn't it be done?

It'll take you FOREVER to break even. The better fuel cost per mile from the taller gear will be so minimal, it'll take 'til 250K to see any return on the $2K expense.

Tallest gear on a 3500 was probably 3.73

You won't find any 2500/3500 owners with 3.55 gears, lowest factory gearing is 3.73. And I agree, you'll probably see a minor 1-2 mpg gain at highway speed anyway. Would be a ton more economical to buy a small 30 MPG beater than run your 1 ton truck. Plus with 3.55s you can just about forget towing/hauling, the gears will have all they can do to just move the truck...
