Default Brake light problem

I have an '04 Ram 1500 SLT 4x4 5.7. The lamp out light came on and the two rear brake lights are out. The center high brake light works and the bulbs tail lights both work fine, so I know that it's not bulbs.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

One other bit of info that might help. I have a tester that goes into the 7 prong trailer light plug & it says that everything is correct there.

Brake lights or tail lights. they are double element bulbs the brake side could be bad.

I do not know for certain about '04s, but '03s are somewhat infamous for the circuit boards going bad that are in the rear light assemblies.

Some people have taken them apart and fixed the burned or corroded traces and contacts inside of the gray housing. I just ordered a new one to replace one of mine.

Do you have a test lamp or a volt-meter that will confirm you have a good circuit from the tail lamp assembly? The trailer plug is on a different circuit and I think the 3rd brake light is on a different circuit as well. Do a quick search for any post from 'weedahoe' and in his signature he has links to the service manuals with all the wiring diagrams to help in your trouble shooting.

Did both brake lights stop working at the same time?

I don't have a test lamp, but I'll pick one up tomorrow.

They did both go out at the same time.

Does your Truck have the 4-wire behind the bumper? Sons Truck was having problems with the tail/brake lights and we found that the 4-wire plug was shorting out.
