Default New Dodge Owner :)

My name is Jessica and I am the new owner of a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L. It has 106,000 miles on it. I also have a 5 in lift. Although I am a chevy girl I have fallin in love with my dodge I want to know the perks of having a dodge and things that tend to go wrong on them so I am not surprised! Thank Y'all

You may have to keep an eye on two different sections. The 2002 1500s with the 5.9L V8 have the body of a 3rd Gen Ram (2002 was the first year of that body style), but the drivetrain of a 2nd Gen (2001 was the last year of that body style).

2 things to look into is the "Plenum gasket" and also I'm sure your truck has the "death flash" which you can search threads on both and see what they are but they are.

Welcome to the forum! As Ellis42 just mentioned, check out the 'plenum gasket' issue. You'll find a lot of threads on it in the 2nd gen section. Everyone will tell you that the 5.9 engine is a tank and will last forever if you take care of it. Mine has over 202,000 miles on it now and runs strong, with still mostly original components! That says a lot about these trucks!

Oh another important area to check is the rear differential, especially if you have the factory Limited Slip Diff. The clutch retaining packs are notorious for coming loose. You can get lucky and the parts will just sit in the bottom of the diff, or you can be unlucky and the pieces will "grenade" the entire rear end...
