Newbie who needs some advice on tires and dealership
Hey guys, this is my first post about my first ram.
2007 1500 Sport Crew Cab
4x4
mopar level and rear lift kit.
I just bought it 2 weeks ago and it has spent 1 week of that in the shop. The dealer installed 325/60r20 toyo ats with the level and stock 20's.
After my first week of ownership, the UCA gouged and melted the side of the front tires from rubbing so bad. They were 325/60r20.
So they changed them out for what they said was close but a little smaller, a 275/65r20 toyo at. Needless to say, these looked like **** and about 1.25" shorter and 2 inches narrower, not close to what I want. Online spec is 34x11.
I do not mind going narrower from the 13.2" I had but I do not want shorter. I asked for 285/65r20 BFG goodrich tires which are 34.7 x 11.50.
They said these BFGs are no bigger then the toyos even though the spec sheet says they are. Are they correct? Does not make sense to me.
I think the BFG also look alot better and beefier then toyo at.
Any suggestions? They are going to change to BFG if I want but I only get one shot at this.
Thanks guys

So the Toyos were 325/60r20 and the BFG goodrich are 285/65r20.
Not much difference in height but just more narrow. I cant see how 35" tires are that big of an issue on an leveled 4wd. There are lots of guys out there than run 35s as that is a very popular size.
So maybe more narrow is the direction you need to go.

The BFGs might look beefier, but the Toyos are a MUCH BETTER tire and will handle better both on road and off. BFG is all about advertising, Toyo/Nitto is all about performance.
35s ARE an issue on the coil-over IFS 4x4 Rams ('06+) whereas not so much on the torsion bar front IFS Rams ('02-'05). The right way to clear the wider tires (11.5"+) is to put a wheel on with the proper backspacing/offset to get the tire out away from the UCA. You'll clear those 325/60/20s using a wheel with about 4.5" of backspacing.
I'd seriously question a dealer that would try to put a tire that wide on that truck. Number one, they should just know beforehand that it has NO CHANCE of clearing the UCA and number two, even if they don't, the tech would see it when he mounts it. Sounds to me like you have a "bad" dealer.
Given a choice, I'd ditch the 20s in favor of 17" wheels. You've decreased your towing capacity (considerably) with 20" wheels and crippled off-road performance (unless you bought this truck as a pavement queen), use a wheel with between 4.25-4.5" of backspacing and put 35x12.5x17 tires on it that DON'T say BFG or Goodyear on the side of it. But that's me...

Thanks for the comments guys.
The dealership is quite mistified about why that tech let the truck on the lot how it was, hence why I think they are being accomodating with trying three different sets of tires for me and fixing all my current complaints free of charge.
I ended up going with the 285/65r20 BFG. I am sure the toyo at are a great tire but my family members have always run them and for what I need they will suffice.
The other option to keep the 325/65/20 and run 3/8" spacers. I am not a fan of spacers so opted not to use this option.
I am believe the narrower tire will be better for my highway driving and for snow conditions, and towing.
I love big tires, my last truck 2003 Silverado had 8 inches and 36x12.50 on it. But I got sick of the lifted game and the expense the huge tires and lift can cause.
Always been a chevy guy, but sick of the premium you pay for the same truck as my dodge. So far, great truck and no real complaints.
Thanks Again.

Dirtydog has a nice writeup on what fits and what doesn't that is stickied in this section.
I agree with the OP on NOT going with wheel slavers, I'm not a fan of them either and yes, the narrower tire would benefit on snow as it'll concentrate more weight per square inch. I just hope you have better luck than I have with the BFGs. Two sets of BFG A/Ts were easily the worst two sets of tires I've ever owned. But back in those days I was a LOT harder on tires than most...
