pissed off
I was in leftbridge this easter weekend, ie 500+ km. deer foot is icing on the oh my god cake, I was switching out my head light bulbs, than decided to back into my drive way, I heard a clunk and the wheal went tight, thinking it was a U joint, I reved up the truck to get into my drive way.
When I looked under the truck, right tire rod gone, it just popped out, from the hub stearing stabilzer is holding inner outter tie rod, stearing links from falling.
Thiers no bolts, or cotter pins to hold this in place looks like its compression fitted.
Thiers never been any issues with stearing in my truck, no death wobble, no clunky sounds, I never had any waring signs.
I post a lot on my BB, no worries, Im trying to up load pics

Sorry 'bout my post above... didn't mean to sound like an axx... was on my blackberry and just typing a short message..
Anyhow, ya, I guess some trucks are affected, others aren't... I'd be pissed if my truck lost a tie rod like that. I've been lucky... all my recalls have been done pre-failure, so as far as I can ascertain, my truck has been very reliable and I'm not afraid of it. Thinking of the deerfoot and losing a tie rod though sends shivers down my spine.

Look at the end of the video to see how bad the tie rod end is.

I don't have a HD I have a 1500, but just had my second set of tie rods put in yesterday, $358. First set was replaced under warranty at around 35,000 and now 15,000 miles later the second set. I had them put in aftermarket with a grease fitting so I can keep them lubed up. Hopefully they will last.
I was rather PO'd myself and kinda yelled and the service guy that Dodge has an inferior part that should last longer than 15,000 miles.

Lets not hope, for you and your family that your dodge tie rod holds togethier for you to debate to repair it and move on, this is not a maintance or neglect issue, yes parts wear out, but dodge doesnt even have a bolt or cotter pin to prevent the right tie rod from seperating.
(mog replacments have a cotter pin, so F y mopar!)
Its held togethier by compression with only one means of support on the right side (2500.)
Im having the whole front end re done with servicable ball joints, serviceable front u joints on the drive axles, new inner outter tie rods, possible new stearing stabilizer bar with non mopar parts, most likey mog parts, as deterimined by my mecanic.
16 hour quote for labor from courtasy chrysler in calgary to replace 4 ball joints ( not the reason for tie rod falling off ) and dam near three grand+ for a general quote to rebuild the front end on a pavment queen truck with 121,000 Km
I did fail a complaint with Chrysler canada and Im keeping the old right tie rod in case I m offerd some means of compensation, at least they could pay for towing.
Recall is out, but not for my Vin.
So I have moved on, verry thankful to a higher power that im alive to fix this, instead of having to be burried.
You lose all stearing control when the right tie rod dodges from active duty.
Thanks for letting me vent !!!
