Default Hub Snapped while driving!! Check your hubs!!

Well I was coming back from salem on the saintam pass. When my pass side hub snapped put the tire into the control arm and melted the nubbys off the in side wall of the tire.

So I was stuck up in the mountains 1 1/2 hr away from anything and no cell service with my family.

So finally got a signale and had my dad pick 4 of us up and my son in a lil coupe civic was pretty interesting to get us all in there with a baby seat.

Well I am getting towed back tomorrow and going to buy both front hubs and a new cv axle for the drivers side next week and just get it all out of the way.

But wow it was pretty dangerous how it happened. The hub just snapped for some odd reason. Was driving about 65 not even up a grade and it basicly sounded like I threw a rod threw my engine block with a huge boom and smoke from the tire. Got it jacked up and found the hub just snapped I could almost wiggle my tire right off the axle. I will take a pic as soon as i get it back.

IDK if this is a flaw from dodge or what but it is pretty dangerous!!

I would check your hubs and make sure they are good even though mine did look fine. Very dangerous situation I was in could of easily turned into a fatal one.

Judging by your sig picture those tires arent really helping the hub much.. But either way im glad you and your family are safe. Hopefully the install of new parts is quick and easy for you.. Good luck

From what I read on here and a couple other forums for these trucks, the factory hubs are pretty bad and need to be replaced fairly early. A few weeks ago a fellow on another forum I frequent for the Ram had a new hub snap in half on him, this one was a 2wd though so the tire actually separated from the truck. Were you hearing any odd noises or notice any odd behavior prior to this happening?

Mine went while driving too, thank goodness I hadn't got to the highway yet

I had the clunking grinding sound but thought it was a sticky caliper, I was on my way to do my brakes when this happened.

Bent my caliper, found another seized so had all 4 changed.

Most expensive brake job ever, but once it was on the hoist and my time was wasted I just let the shop do it.

Pay attention to bumps and grinds, check to be sure what's making them.

When I did my CV axles I popped the upper ball joint off with a pitman arm puller which gave me more room to pull the CV out of the hub and then off the axle housing.
