do you know what alternator you currently have? from what i see on rock auto it almost looks like all they used was 136 amp alternators no matter what engine you had.

from what i see on rock auto the 3500 also used the same 136amp alternator. now some of the newer dodge vehicle do have a 160 amp alternator but i am not sure if they would bolt in. rock auto does have a 225amp alternator listed for the 2009-2012 ford e350 and e450 but i am not sure what you would need to make one of those work. plus rock auto has them listed for $550

ya. it can get a bit expensive to get more amperage with just 1 alternator. it might just be easier to install a second alternator.

A genuinely stronger alternator will be pretty expensive. Some of the claims of higher capacity are at high RPM and so are not as effective as they'd have you believe. What is your goal?

Ok, I'll get put in my place I'm sure lol. I'll say it anyways. I have a 5.9 in my S-10, and there's a few things I hate about Mopar! I hate the trannys, my 727 is junk, and I rebuilt the alternator 4-5 times before going to a Chevy alternator. They're cheaper and way better IMO. I measured, just measure the pulley grooves for your belt, and get the clock correct and it's a simple swap. You'll love how strong the Chevy alts are! If you go that route. Mopar parts are twice as high!

Take a look on the 2nd gen forum and search 'alternator upgrade'. With how long the 5.9 has been around I bet there's something with a big alternator you could steal.
