Default Cruise control problems

Hi everyone, I got a new problem with my truck. The other day I was heading home on the freeway and set the cruise. 5 minutes later it turned off. At first I thought the truck stalled but when I looked down at the dash, I realized the truck was still running but the cruise turned off. I reset it and didn't have another problem till today. So today I was driving and I go to turn the cruise on and nothing. No light on the dash either. I then tried again and the light turned on for a second and then off. I then tried again and this time it stayed on and I set the cruise. It worked for about 30 seconds and then completly turned off again. I tried many more times after that and sometimes it would turn on and work for a few and other times the light would or wouldn't turn on. Does anybody know what is going on? Oh by the way, I hooked up my scanner to see if any codes where being set and the truck came back clean. Thanks for any help in fixing this problem.

It runs on vacuum, look for a vacuum leak up front. I fixed one for a young lady a couple of years ago and found a pinched vacuum hose with a cut in it. Same symptoms as yours. I have a pic of hers, use it as a guide as to where to start lookin'...

Thanks, I read that earlier when I searched. If that is the problem, would that actually cause the cruise light itself to turn off on the dash?

OK, hopefully in the next few days I will get a chance to look at that hose and maybe a few others. Does anybody actually know where the cruise is located?

Mine will not work unless under 50 +/- mph. I know it is my sensor in the front drivers side wheel hub thats the issue. So see if you can maintain cruise at a low speed and bump it up to see where you loose it at.

Thanks for the help. When I was trying the other day I was going anywhere from 55 and under. I had the drivers hub replaced about two years ago and I don't know if they replaced that sensor or if the sensor is built into it and comes with the new hub. About 48% of the time you hit the switch on the wheel and the cruise light will not even turn on. About another 48% of the time, you hit the button and the light will light up but will turn off before you have a chance to hit set and the other 4% of the time you hit the button, the light turns on, you hit set and it works anywhere from 5 seconds to a minute. I still have to look for a vacuum leak.

Well today I checked that vacuum line that was shown earlier and mine was fine. Mine actually runs next to the hemi hat, not on top like the pic. I also looked at the front sensor on the hub, disconnected it at the connecter and pulled it out of the hub. It looked fine. I put everything back together and started it up. I ran it for 30 minutes at idle and the light stayed on the whole time. As soon as I put the truck in reverse and started to move, the light went out. This time, the light will not turn back untill you come to a full stop, then it will allow you to turn it back on. I still need to try and find where the cruise is located and see if the vacuum lines are fine there. I am also wondering if the sensor is bad like Weed said earlier.

I also forgot to add earlier that the light would stay on at idle but two out of the three times that I reved the engine in park, the light would go out. So now I am thinking it is something to do with a vacuum leak.

Well yesterday I retook the hemi hat off along with the tb and everything looked fine. Theres not many vacuum lines under this thing but they all look good. Does anybody know what that sensor is called that controls the cruise down on the hub?
