Default 02 4.7 just died!!

Im getting to the point with this truck that i might just sell it.

I was driving home the other day and as i was coming up to my house it died. everything locked up and i bearly missed a parked car and got to my drive way.

I thought I ran out of gas first so I went to go get some gas and filled it up but nope that was not it at all.

Code it was throwing was p0201 which is the injector. But i was reading that it could be the TPS.

I replaced the TPS and still nothing it starts sooner but it takes about 30 sec to crank over and wont go unless your foot is all the way into it.

It sounds like it is running on 4 cy and no other codes are being throw and that code will not pop up again but it is un drivable.

Need some help here. Searched all over google with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appropriated.

I'm going to take the valve cover off tomorrow and see if anything is broke. Sounds like maybe something did Wednesday I will get a new injector.

Any help??? Never had a problem like this before.

Collapsed lifter maybe. I hear that is a somewhat common issue on these, especially if its noisy as hell and hard to start. Popping that valve cover off is a good idea / place to start.

Running out of gas should not cause a collapsed lifter. I've had a car run like total crap when it was flooded, holding the pedal to the floor should clear a flooded motor. May take a bit of cranking to clear a flood, if it is flooded. You'll have to check out the plugs, coils, injectors, etc.

Ok got it running and it still runs like its on 4cyls so i drove it around the block and on the way back home coming down the hill it died again at the same place so i coasted in to the drive way.

The check engine light was flashing while i was driving but it did not store any codes. So IDK What the hell is going on.

But why wont it store a code for me? I have no clue what is going on with this truck. Did i maybe fry my fuel pump when I ran out of fuel? Could one bad injector cause this many problems?

You may have dropped a valve seat. My '02 4.7 HO, just did it with barely 100k miles on it and I'm finding out that it's very common.
The seats are hardened steel and are pressed into the aluminum heads. Over time, heat causes the aluminum to expand more than the steel seat does and it drops out. The reason you get the injector code is because with the valve dropped, the injector stays open.

Pulling the valve cover will let you know if you've dropped a seat or not.

I'm hoping this is NOT your issue because just getting the head out on these over-head cam, modular engines requires taking about EVERYTHING else out to get to. About four to six times longer to pull than the head on an OHV engine, according to "the book".

I'm looking at a head and a piston minimum to get my daily driver back on the road due to what is obviously a design flaw...

Well im hoping to god that is not my problem. With how much luck is going right now that is probably what happened.

I will find out today I guess if it dropped a valve seat. Wish me luck. I think I am going to get the new injector anyway hoping maybe that it will fix it.

But I will pop that valve cover first and make sure nothing is broke. Before I do more damage.

I am also wondering if I fryed the fuel pump when I ran out of gas? Anyone had this problem? This has happened twice so far and usually i just put gas in and its fine but this time it just wont get better.
