How to remove the cig lighter
Im posting this here for those who are always asking. I am also putting a copy over in our FAQ, How To, DIY section
Assuming you already know how to remove the bezel and disconnect the electrical connectors..............
1. Remove the actual lighter from the socket if you have one.
2. Push in slightly the two metal tabs on the inside of the lighter socket
3. You need a 27mm deep socket to place over the black ring the lighter socket fits into. Put the socket on a table or bench and line the bezel on top of it and face down so that when you whack the lighter socket from the back it slides out and into the socket. I use the handle on my Klein flat head driver.
4. Next, again, push in the two plastic tabs that hold in the plastic ring and give it a whack (without the socket in place this time) to pop it out. NOTE: Be careful because sometimes these plastic tabs will break off.

I did that on my '04 when I decided I wanted to put a new shift **** on the shifter. I relocated the tow haul button to the cig lighter hole, and used the power for a switched source for radar detector. I destroyed the factory ****, but thougt I read on here that there is actually a tool for removing that piece.
