Default Sound like a good idea? Truck longevity

My 07 just hit 86,000mi and it's still running good, some front end suspension stuff has worn and I have replaced some and will do other parts and there is some rust in places that would be expected here in Ohio. Also my truck is still nearly stock.

I have thought about maybe trading it in for a newer truck with less miles but I think I am just going to keep the body and frame in good condition and just keep the truck and when the day comes when the engine or transmission dies then I'll put a new one in.

Sounds cheaper then having to get a whole new truck and this way I can continue to mod it and not have to worry about having to start from scratch on a new truck.

Any input or suggestions?

I agree keep it, like many people have said on here Dodge trucks can run forever if you treat them good, I'm sure down the line you will need new motor or tranny but I have seen dodge trucks run to 200000+ miles before either was needed but these truck were well taken care of

As for the rust there are ways to get it treated and fixed, and I would get it done so you don't end up like a lot of guys that run in to the rusted out rear fenders

Just a quick link I looked up for you, but like it says the best way to treat Rust is to prevent it, before mine could start rusting I bought some rubber spray undercoating about $4 a can and I did both wheel wells I used 2 cans and I think I should be fine also they sell plastic inserts or covers that go in the wheel well and protect it From dirt and stuff from building up on the frame or fenders and then causing rust, I don't believe they cost much I would just look on Amazon and probly find a great deal

But if yours are bubbling I would try the sanding thing and painting it but if that don't work cut the wheel well part that's rusted then put fender flares on it and no one will ever know

I recommend that you keep it also. I have 150k miles on my 05 hemi and it runs great and never been in the shop. I treat rust with POR 15. It's great stuff and easy to apply.

If the paint is 'bubbling' without a rock chip, etc. then the rust is coming from the inside of the panel. Mine's the same way, I'll have to weld in a whole patch panel one of these days.
