04 dodge ram 1500 5.7 hemi straight pipe question
I have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7 hemi on board and want to some what cheapily straight pipe it. The truck has a single pipe from the headers and hits a muffler and then splits into dualies. i was wondering if it was worth just cutting the muffler off and having a sort of Y shaped pipe put in place. Also would it be fine to keep the cats on. please write any knowledge you know or any suggestions.

You can keep the cats. You can also ditch the cats if you can get away with it locally and go through or FAQs section on how to trick the O2 sensors so you dont get codes.
And yes you can cut off the muffler if you want. However, before you do anything I would suggest you simply get a DMH Electric cutout to go in the exh pipe so you can control the exh flow and sound.
With it open, its much louder. With it closed, youre back to stock. There are tons of vids on Youtube about it.

I removed my OEM muffler briefly and replaced it with a couple pieces of 3" exhaust tubing from Autozone. Wow, was it loud on the highway. The drone in the cab at 70 mph was terrible. I almost couldn't hear myself think. 55-65 mph was okay, but around 2 grand there is a resonant frequency, I guess. Dawdling around the base/town was okay; it was a little loud when first cranking up in the morning but driving back and forth was okay. I had even left the resonator in...
nice post was wondering about exhaust too. i have a new to me 2003 bright silver qc hemi 4x4 3.55. i love it! with the 2003 i have the 1 muffler for better tone( and it does sound nice) and i hear dodge put a very efficient air intake on ram hemis. would a k and n drop in and a straight pipe( or maybe a glass pack?) make a lil difference in my performance for cheap? also im looking in to superchips for my first mod but now i read about a tcm mod that does about the same thing as chip on my year truck. and it free. is the tcm mod safe and what do u think bout KandN and glass pack?
thanks all
thanks all
Straight pipe sounds like ***!!! i worked on an 04 hemi with cats and straight pipes and when i cruised it wasnt too bad put when u let go of the throttle the rasps sounded horibble. and when i gunned it, it was loud but not the good sounding loud. i recommend just replacing it with a different muffler or even a glasspack from like cherry bomb. im trying to figure out a good magnaflow i can swap into mine without actually doin a whole catback. times r tuff.
Horrible idea you have now removed all necessary back pressure and are going to burn your valves... It's not a cummins on boost..
