alarm/security issue
Hello all, I have recently purchased a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummins. The issue I have is that if I open the door, enter the truck and start it without closing the door then the alarm sounds (horn honks/light flashes). When I close the door it does not stop sounding. I have to use the panic button to disarm it.
I am wondering if this is a safety/security feature or a malfunciton. As far as I can tell there is no aftermarket alarm installed on the truck and the key fob is stock.
I have searched google and this site and have found a lot of alarm/security issues but none pertaining to mine. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Unless you or someone else had the wrong key cut, only those with grey keys have the OEM security. You can however use a black key to lock/unlock the doors. When you try to start the truck though the truck will detect a non-programmed key (grey) and sound off
Ok, when I bought it the guy gave me 3 black keys. I just tried all 3 and if the door is open, the alarm sounds. If I enter the truck, close the door and start it there is no problem. But if I open the door while its running, horn honk and lights flash.
Anybody know if there is a fuse or relay I can pull to disable the alarm?
Thanks,
JC

I've continued searching and have learned that I do not have a factory alarm. No aftermarket alarm either. So should I still be looking at that ignition harness? Any other ideas?
Thanks,

I would look under the steering column for any aftermarket alarm modules. it's possible a previous owner installed one that is faulting. If so, you can simply unplug the connectors and leave them hanging. That will completely disable any aftermarket alarm module.
Thanks for the tip. I looked under the dash and along the steering column but didn't find any aftermarket alarm module. I found a mod through my searching that advised to use a jump wire on the seatbelt plug to trick the truck into thinking the belt is latched. No luck.
Did some troubleshooting and found that if I enter the truck, leave door open, start engine and apply the brake then the horn/lights don't activate. Soon as I let off the brake pedal the horn/lights activate and the gear shift indicator begins flashing with a box around all letters. Apply brake again and it stops. This only happens in park. If I shift to reverse or drive with the door open then no horn/lights, brake or not.
It's getting weirder! Thanks again for your patience and help.
