So I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 ST. The 3.7L v6 with the 6 speed manual. And I have noticed that it drops down to about 300 at idle when the engine is still healthy at 600. No bogging or anything. So it’s not just the 5.7’s it’s all 06 1500’s. I haven’t tried to fix it because I don’t really feel like tearing apart my daily to fix something that doesn’t affect the way my truck drives. Since mine a manual I’ve noticed that when I take off and give it a little gas the needle pops back up where it’s suppose to be(I even red lined it to test it and it redlines at the correct rpm). I would like for there to be some kind of recall, if anyone has heard anything on a 100% fix that would be great so I can just drop it off at the dealership and know what I should be getting. I don’t want to take it there and spend $1000 on stuff I don’t need. Thank you.

When I had my 2002 4.7, it had the same issue oddly enough. Have you tried turning the key 3 on and off three times (NOT STARTING THE VEHICLE)? That'll check for codes in the computer. That's the first link I put below. If you hold the trip odometer button near the guages and turn the key to the on position once (NOT STARTING THE VEHICLE), your truck will do a test with things like the guages themselves and such. I put that down in the second link. With my truck before I sold it, sometimes the RPM guage would not be in sync during the test... for all you know it may fix your problem...

Few years back I temporarly fixed tacho issue with solution thrugh following video. Problem returned in half a year or so. I gues I din't melt solder enough and there I have cold solder crack again... I will try to send instrument unit to electrical specialist so he can perform better job on soldering two tacho chips.

Yikes, I hope it will finally get fixed for you. Seems like this was the biggest issue for the 06 models...
