On my 2002 Ram 1500 5.9 with 98,000 miles. It does not make a ticking noise when it is cold. It does though when it warms up. It does it when I am going down the road at a constant speed like when the cruise is set. If I push the gas down a little and speed up or let off and slow down, it quits. It also does it quietly when it is warmed up and idling. Im guessing its the lifters. Would the timing chain do that? I did a few searches and did find anything like this. Thanks.
few questions.... what modifications, if any, are you using, what oil viscosity and type, and do you know what type of oil pressure you're running at low rpm? with that being said i would do the timing chain anyways bc that is a problem with those. also, i'd put a new plenum gasket in.
Egr valve....but your stock you said. I get same thing when using my metal cold air intake. It's resonating, but in your case stock its possible or broken manifold bolt possibly
