Default Rear end grease

Im going to change the diff fluids this weekend so I picked up some Royal Purple today. I asked the guy at parts counter if they had any LSD additive, he said I don't need it...Royal Purple (and other brands) are now adding it too their products.

Has anyone heard of this? I don't need my rear diff blowing up cause someone didn't know they are talking about.

Yup, they make LSD diff fluid, its fairly common. You can even check out royal purples site, they show no additive needed. You do have to be careful though, not all are for limited slip diffs.

I've got RP in my diffs but I have no LSD. I have seen comments on this site, though, that recommend putting the recommended amount of LSD additive in, anyway, even when using diff fluids that already have it mixed in. You could try putting in the fluid alone and not quite fill it up all the way. Then see if you notice any binding up in the rear end. If you do, put in some additive and then top off with RP. If you don't, just top off with RP.

RP is good stuff - you may find you don't need anything else.

Thanks guys.

Now in trying to find out for sure if my pickup has an LSD rear end. For some reason I don't have a sticker in the glove box...may have to call the dealership.

a little patch of gravel or wet grass will tell you pretty quick.

Or you could jack up the end of the truck and spin a wheel, if the other spins the same way you've got a lsd... or... just call the dealer, probably easier

Go to the dealer or call Dodge and request a build sheet. It will tell you everything you have. I have a sticker in my glove box but still wasn't convinced I didn't have a LSD until I got a build sheet.

I changed my rear diff fluid and came across the same problem. I jacked up the back and presto, the wheel went the other way. Now time to go check the level...

I went ahead and threw some additive in just to be safe. Now my problem is I got the front drained and it started raining. Nothing like laying in a puddle and trying to get that stinkin front cover on.
