Default Trans going into limp mode

Sometimes my trans goes into limp mode were it won’t go into overdrive and slips badly. Almost to were i don’t think its going to make it off the road.
Once I pull over and turn off the truck/ reset the computer its fine for a good month or two.
This happens every now and then for no reason. I’m not pulling anything or even climbing a steep hill. Trans fluid is fine and has been changed regularly..
I have to idea why .

It goes into limp mode to protect itself from further damage. You can likely pull the DTC codes but Im sure one of them would be p0700

Pretty much every thread Ive seen with that came down to a rebuild or replacement. Maybe someone else can chime in and share something.

I would really be suprised if it needed a rebuild because I have always been easy on it, never pulled anything and have changed the fluid and filters every 20,000 from day one.. the trany seems strong and works perfect exept every few months it does the limp mode thing..
could it be getting hot with out the gauge telling me?
i have always used synthedic fluid too.

I jsut had this same problem and brought it to a local tranny shop that ive dealt with in the past. I was told it was either the TCM computer...$400 dollars, or a solenoid pack. Seeing as it was having issues with communicating with some of the computers it turned out to be a Control Module for the transmission.

Do you know what tranny you have?
