probably the sending unit is going bad, i think that's usually the cause. It's not that hard to replace but you do have to drop the fuel tank to get at it. (or some guys say raise the bed, either way).

Could that be why my trucks been running like crap for the last 3 weeks? I posted a thread "03 hemi doing strange things " and your referring to the fuel pump right?

I think hes just referring to the fuel level sending unit or sensor. Not too sure what its like on these trucks.

doubt that's why its running bad, but could be related. The send unit is different than the fuel pump, but if you've had other problems than maybe there's more going on. All the send unit does is tell your truck how much fuel it has. If the fuel pump was completely bad though your truck wouldn't even run.

could be the fuel sending unit as stated above. if it was the fuel pump, your vehicle would randomly shut off and may take some time to restart. If your truck isn't shutting off while your gauge goes to E, then I would say just the sending unit. But...while you're in there, I would recommend just changing the whole unit, with fuel pump and get it over with. Doesn't make sense to spend two occassions digging into your fuel tank.

hmmm... yeah just read your other thread. Did you ever fix the evap codes? Find a leaky gas cap or tubes that were rotting out or something? Seems all related to me, there are definitely parts of your fuel system failing, but there may be so much going on it's hard to narrow it down. You need to start systematically start crossing things off the list, or take it to a shop for a full breakdown of what all is wrong. If you start eliminating things it will be easier to zero in on the true problem. I would start with the evap system though if you havent yet.

Keep us posted.

good point whiteram, if you have the tank off, might as well replace it all.

didn't think about the other possibilities...follow ewings advice before just replacing parts...but as previously stated...if you're still having trouble with the fuel level without fuel problems, then replace the whole fuel pump and sending unit...if it doesn't go out then, it will soon.

While I agree it could be the sending unit, it also could be a simple loose or corroded wiring issue also.
