Default Proper Ride Height? 04 Ram 1500 2WD

Hey good people. Been a while since I've been on here since I signed up. Reason being? My truck has been excellent in the first year I've owned it. It now has almost 80K miles on it, and the front end has the occasional squeaking over bumps and turns. Upper control arm time! Anyway, while I was under it the other day changing oil, I noticed that the rubber snubbers sit around an inch or two from the point where they make contact with the lower control arms. Since I have to do ball joints on this beast anyway, I was wondering what the proper ride height should be. Reason being is if I have to do ball joints anyway, I'd like to know if I might have to do springs as well. An inch or two of travel on the suspension just doesn't seem right to me. I notice that when I hit some pretty good bumps, it has a pretty good effect on the steering, and I noticed the snubbers have apparently hit a time or two. Any info on ride height would be appreciated.

Hey at least u got a inch or two I only maybe a half inch if I'm lucky lol. U got to also remember ur bump stops r bout half way between ur tire n the pivot point on ur lower control arm, so that being said u actully should have bout 2-4 inches of travel

WOW! You got only a half inch between your snubber and where it hits? That actually makes me feel a little better. Anybody else have a ride height measurement for my truck.

I have a 2005 Ram 1500 Quad Cab with a HEMI. I got it a few years ago with about 105K on it. I noticed it sat like it was diving in the front real hard, i looked like a wedge. I got a leveling kit from a dodge only site. The kit was made by a big name. I think it was Rancho. It came with a new set of springs and and new taller shocks. I painted the springs and had a bit of trouble getting the A Members to drop out but I Learned about using a brass hammer and they fell right out. I had to get the front end aligned right away but the truck sits level and looks great. Now I considered getting a spacer to go between the springs and the upper mount. Its a cheap option but as it turns out there was already a spacer from the previous owner. My leveling kit cos about 200 bucks if iI remember correctly, but it has been money well spent. You could try to find a cheaper option but theat HEMI engine is big and the suspension sags greatly over the years.

I am really happy with the kit I got and if you cant find one similar let me know and I will dig up the invoice and turn you on to the web site I got it from. While I was doing the job I painted the calipers the same red color and its a great looking accent with the truck being a gun metal gray color and the red calipers and springs. I am glad i choose to do it right on this one and the truck drives and looks great.

Its a little bit of work, but you can do it in a day and you need the alignment the next day because it changes so much of the geometry.

Like I said it was well worth it.

Can you post more info about that kit. It sounds like it could help me with my 04 1500. My front end looks like its sticking its nose in the dirt.

Your 04 has a free leveling kit, research cranking your torsion bars.

Well torsion bars would be good if mine was a 4WD. Unfortunately, mine is coil spring 2wd.

I would like more info on that leveling kit though. That sounds like the ticket for me.

Actually, after I did ball joints, upper control arms, and wheel bearings, the truck sits better than it did, but still looks a little low to me. The alignment shop told me that it sits normal for it's year. It just looks sorta goofy to me. Like you are standing on the brakes from 80MPH to zero.
