Default rear end housing trouble for 2004 Ram 1500

I have a broken LDS clutch clip that has ground its way into the bearing housing. I priced out new housings, but that path seems awfully expensive. Anyone have options? Junk yards don't seem like a good choice, unless I can find on that I'm positive isn't bent. I thought I had one secured from a fellow member, but he just sent pics and I can see that his in similar condition as mine. I guess the ideal situation is finding an open rear that someone switched over to a larger heavy duty axle. Then I could buy and install an aftermarket LSD in it, and I guess put a new set of 3.92s in as well.

Thanks,
Paul

Wow, it usually takes a lot longer than 15k miles for a broken clip to take out the housing. No signs of the broken clip at last diff fluid change?

I'd try to find one at a junk yard from a truck with a frontal wreak myself...

Lots of OEM units can found on Ebay and Craigslist. But is your damage bad enough you need to replace the diff or the rear end?

The well recommended local shop I talked to when I found the problem on mine said they wouldn't advise using a housing with a slot ground in the bearing housing. I'm wary of buying jyard ones, even if the front is damaged it doesn't mean that the tow rig didn't bend the housing dragging the truck around... or it didn't slide sideways into a curb and bend it up.

So I'm looking for a cherry housing, no damage at all... probably best if it is an open diff, I'm going with a new auburn or something else other than the poorly designed dana spicer that Dodge put in there.
