Yes the 4.56's will help alot. Cost depends in your area and the shop. I could get mine done for $1200.. look around for a good 4x4 shop to do it

One local shop here charges $650 per axle. On the other end of the scale, the 4 Wheel Parts store about 45 minutes from me just quoted a guy I play golf with $2700 to regear his son's lifted F150. You'll probably find shops quote you anywhere between the two.

Also be aware that if you are towing over your truck's rated capacity and a passing cop suspects it, he can force you to a weigh station and at that point fine the **** out of you AND make you unhook and make arrangements to come get the trailer with a truck rated for the load.
Also of prime concern is that if you have an accident your insurance WILL deny any and all claims if they suspect you towing beyond capacity. It's possible if there is a large loss of property or severe injury or worse you could lose about everything you own.

Just a heads up...

You did GREAT!!!

I've had maybe half a dozen guys drive a couple of hours to use the shop local to me for $650 an axle because guys local to them were up over $2000 for front and rear gear jobs...

Going rate around here is anywhere from 1200-1800 per axle. Price of living somewhere where labour is 120/hr for specialized shops I guess.

Are you using a 4.7 or a Hemi?

I pull a 22ft carhauler with 7k rated axles and load up my cj7 on one tons that weighs about 5k lbs. probably tips the scales around 7500-8000 lbs. I've towed it a bunch over the last 5 years with my 04 ram 1500 hemi 4x4 with 3.92 gears and 5 speed auto. It has plenty of power and stops it quick with trailer brakes. I would hate to see your RPMs going up a hill when it down shifts. Mine will rev up to over 5k sometimes but it has never once gotten hot on my and the only problem I've ever had with the tranny is a bad solenoid. Might be a little heave on the truck but I wouldn't go as far as putting in 4.56 gears unless you are running a 37" tire or something like that.
