axle bearings
I have 03 Ram and it makes a grinding noise when i turn tight into a parking space, or just a turn sharp peroid. I heard that the rams have problems with the rear axle bearings. Its at the dealership right now, and they are telling me that the gear oil needs to be changed. That dosent sound right to me since the truck only has 42k on it, and if the gear oil is burnt a 42k wouldnt that suggest a problem? Has anybody else heard of, or had this problem?
Read your owners manual for service intervals. It requires your gear lube in your differentials or differential if you have a two wheel drive to be changed every 15,000 miles. I agree it seems excessive but dodge hasn't had the best of luck with axels. So if you don't keep proof of changing them in your service manual and they take a s@#t. Why they could void that part of your warranty!! Do you have larger than stock tires cause what you describe sounds like your tires are rubbing? Or check your power steering fluid cause they have been known to use some fluid and may be low!! I have a 2003 and checked mine even though it made no noises and it was down to the add mark. If it's low make sure you add dot 4 fluid. I hope this helps you out, let us know what it turns out to be.
Na it has stock tires with 20" wheels. Well the dearlership took it for a ride today, and they said that something was up with the gearbox, and they would have to tear it down to find out what it is. I have only had the truck for about a month, and have only put about a thousand miles on it. I bought the truck from them so hopefully they wont try to screw me over on the warranty, but they wont have an answer till friday at the earliest so i guess ill just have to wait it out. thanks for the info ill keep it posted on what happens b/c i have seen other people with similar questions.
