TIPM (totally integrated power module) interchangability

there's not enough room to make my reply
About a month ago I got the dreaded No Bus code. Dealer said it was the TIPM. I refuse to pay the $1100 to replace it. I'm gonna pull it and clean up the connections and put some dielectric grease in there to make sure that isn't the problem. Other than that, I was wondering if these are interchangeable between different years? I have found an 08' one and an 06' with the same part number (I have an 2007 Laramie). I'm not sure if I could swap those in or not..anyone have info on this?

Find a good used one , Is yours the small metal module tied to the fuse block under the hood ?
Check voltage at pin 6 and 14 on your OBD connector . One will be between 0and 2.5 volt , the other will be between 2.5 and 5 volts
When all works good , the difference between both voltage should be about same . Lets say the low side is 1.9 volts the high side will be 3.1 volts
roughly rule of thumb.
If both are exactly the same they are short together . If one is zero , short to ground if one is over 5 volts short to power
With your voltmeter in place start disconnecting one component at a time till one you remove bring back to normal reading.
Then reconnect all you remove in same order except the one that solved the issue.
