But not so sure about fluids leaking out of front pumpkin without some kind of "bung" or "cap" in place of the stub shaft to stop it leaking???
Al.
Wrong. Sure the hub assy. is held on by 3 big bolts, but the bearing itself WILL seperate if ran without the outer cv joint and nut.

Well I have the nut still in the hub assembly due to not having right tools to take it out... I separated it from the stub and then disconnected it at the hub area.

I don't think so. I think the hub is the same between 2wd and 4wd.

Same hub for 2wd and 4wd. Wheel will not separate if not CV is in place. CV ONLY makes sure the spins in 4wd.

The tire is bolted to the hub, hub is bolted to the spindle. Only way to loose that is to lose a balljoint

Alright cool guys thanks... Looking at the front diff tho, looks like it'll be difficult to drop it and take out that shaft stub due to limited space in there. Y'all actually replaced it before?

Finished it up the other night, the cv axle goes in in like 2 min just slides in, however the stub shaft was a pain, especially cuz I couldn't get the clip outa the gears to release the shaft... Other then that it was an easy fix!

Did you have to remove the front diff cover?
I thought the stub shaft was supposed to just popped out, like the cv axle does.

Yes, because there a c clip you have to remove inside the gear area and it's a lil pain in the neck to get out. I used a hammer and like a flat head to bang it out. Then it slides out like butter. FYI its nearly impossible to find the stub shafts. I got mine on eBay for $50 shipped.

Hmmm, maybe the 06 is different. Was there a c-clip on the end of the stub shaft to hold the CV shaft on?
