02 1500 starting issues
Brand new to the forum, hoping for some help. I have an 02 Ram 1500 and when I go to start it just cranks. I've found that if I turn the key on for a couple seconds, turn off for about 5 seconds, turn back on and then crank while pumping the gas pedal it starts. It's like the fuel is bleeding back or my pump is weak. Any suggestions?
Just a guess, but keep cycling the key 4 or 5 times. Try to start without touching the pedal. I don't know what engine you have, but I don't think the 4.7 has a fuel return line. If that's the case this won't work. We just want to prime the system as a test if your losing fuel pressure after the pump stops. If you can, hook up a pressure gauge and watch it. If your system can't hold pressure and lets the gas all drain back into the tank, you'll need a new pump.
OK i'll try to answer the questions you had in order. I do not have a fuel pressure guage so I can not test. and yes this is a 4.7.
Yes it rutinely gets run down to fumes.
As far as maintenence in that area, none. regular oil changes that's it.
I did stop into a local mechanic and he said that there is a module on top of the pump that has the check valve in it to kep the fuel from bleeding back. He said this is offered separatly from the pump.
I'm thinking of taking the adice of the mechanic as to replace the module it's cheaper than just buying a new pump. your thoughts?

Most guys have problems with their truck shutting off when going around a corner hard. They also have problems with the gas pump when it keeps triggering the handle. The checkvalve is the cause of that as well.
