Default P0700

After almost 4 years and 32k trouble-free miles, something went wrong with my Ram.

As I was backing out of the driveway, when I put it in drive, it hesitated, then there was a pretty severe lurch, after which the tranny wouldn't shift into 2nd. Pulled over, shut it off, and pulled the code (P0700). Started it back up and, other than the CEL being on, everything seemed OK. Shifted with no problems. So now it's parked in front of the house while I get to borrow the lady's Escape (not a trade-off I'm happy about), so at least I still have wheels.

I know the code has to do with the Transmission Control Module. I just figured I'd put a feeler out to see what more knowledgeable people think might be the problem. It's going into the shop on Monday, and I'm hoping I don't have to rebuild/replace the darn thing. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Thanks in advance.

You don't have a separate TCM, it's integrated into the PCM. P0700 means you have a transmission problem. Usually there is another code that comes with it that is more specific. I got 0700 then 0734 (I think) when my OD clutches went out.

did you recently change tranny fluid? You will get that code if the flat pan filter is not seated properly. The tranny pump will suck air and create low pressure in the line.

Nope, it's just the one code. And no, I haven't changed the fluid since 50k (at 73k now).

Thanks for the input guys. It's going in first thing in the morning, so hopefully I'll know what's wrong by lunch.
