4.7 Overheating Problem!
Hi, i'm new to the forum so sorry if this has already been posted before. I have a 03 ram 1500 with a 4.7 and cannot figure out why it's overheating. It had a seized up tension pulley so replaced it along with the thermostat and still running hot. The fans are working and there is no coolant leaks. I've bled the system and the coolant looks clean. After doing all this it's slowed the problem down but it's still running a little hot "about 3/4 on the gauge". Also the heat only comes on for about 2 seconds before it starts blowing cool. This thing is driving me crazy lol. Oh, and it seems that the gauge rises when I slow down. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mike

I'm not expert, but from experience.. you didn't mention if you burped the system or not. If you don't have heat, then you most likely have air in the system. Simply park your vehicle uphill, with your radiator cap off and let the system burp until you don't see anymore bubbles. I usually go up to about 1500rpm. If you don't have heat, and still have overheat issues, then somebody else can take over. Cause that's all I got!
I had to fill my system on a steep hill, and burp it thru the bleeder. If after that if you still have issues you may have installed the thermostat backwards, have a cracked head, blown head gasket,or defective fan clutch. It could be many things and 4.7L engines do not tolerate overheating very well! The fact that you have a heat problem dictates the system has air in it. Good luck!
