Default Non Hemi Owners

I should have got one but didn't!

What can be done to improve the performance of the 2005 Dodge Ram 4.7 instead of spending 8 grand on a Hemi upgrade?

Thanks for any advice.

well....if you want similar performance..... you have 2 options at this point...

you can spend about 4k in bolt-ons ( + more for turbo upgrade..etc) to equal the performance #'s....

or you can trade in your truck and when you buy the new truck....add the hemi option for a measley 995.00 dollars...

lol.....BTW.....performance upgrades to your 4.7 will probably not prove reliable enough to outlast 100k miles.

***people....the hemi cost what...an extra 1k + 1k in the tranny upgrade thats required.....so figure 2k. but instead you look to cheap out in the initial stage but waste more money into a smaller engine to gain performance increases to come somewhat close to the hemi.

financing another 1.5-2k is like an extra 20 bucks a month.

I don't tow and I have two Mustangs to satisfy my speed bug so not opting for the Hemi kept a little extra cash in my pocket. Just my thoughts. By the way if you ordered the 4.7 for better gas mileage forget it. It gets the same as the Hemi.

Just wondering, I'm new but I heard from owners that the Hemi gets at best 14 mpg and the 4.7 about 20. If this aint true, screw getting the 4.7 and I'm gonna get the Hemi. I want a Dodge, with the SLT package, but need decent gas mileage too! I'm screwed!

my old truck was an 02 ram with the 4.7 and the hemi i have now in my new truck is far far far better on gas mileage, my 4.7 averaged at best 16 on highway and 11 in town, my hemi is close to 14 in town and 19 or 20 on highway

I have a 2004 Quad Cab 4x4 with the 4.7. Trust me you will not see 20 miles per gallon. Not even close!

Aloha everyone

I've got a 2005 Ram QC w/ a 4.7. Now the first weekend we had it we filled it and went up to Savannah about 40 miles away w/6 people in it and was averaging 21.8, it started at 23.2 but leved off to the 21.+ round trip. Then again I wasn't keeping my foot out of it because of the passengers. Going 55-65 most of the way then slower in town.

I want some sound and performance, so any comments on/ pros and cons and why.

1. What Air intake with or without ram air: AiRaid vs K & N vs Volant vs whatever

2. Which exhaust /catback system: Gibson vs Magnaflow vs Borla vs whatever

I've only read BAD things about the Throttle body spacers so I'm not wasting $$ on one

(I'm strapped for the really expensive stuff so I'm of course looking for the best value too.)

Stay Cool, H-out
