Default Nitrous Build questions

So im planning on building a N/A aspirated hemi to beat my buddies Turbo LS Chevy. So nitrous and cams are in order.

Ive heard good and bad things on the ZEX Nitrous kit, mainly being the solenoids pop and wont flow Nitrous or Fuel, the latter being scary as hell. So im leaning towards a BRAND X kit instead.

Cam wise im leaning towards a Spartan.

4.56 gears/detroit locker/vararam intake are already decided, just wondering if anyone on the forum has experience in Nitro/Cams and can steer me in the right direction.

Also, Im Al from Canada haha. First post on here

08 Ram 1500 Sport Q/C

Cheers!

A Bare bone's kit which I assuming your looking at is just that...A starter kit and is not entirely complete.

I'd go NX, and get the Iceman Solonoid kit. BEST N20 solonoid out there IMO.
Those solonoids provide actual rated HP unlike 99% of the rest. For example, a 100shot of NX gave me 98rwhp on the dyno. I swapped the solonoids out for NOS 100shot nozzles and solonoids and only got 78rwhp...BUST..Same with ZEX, 76rwhp if I remember correctly??
Plus, the pulls were very inconsistent with the NOS and ZEX as compared to the NX IceMan which was within 1-2rwhp every pull.

The NX kit I had that had the IceMan solonoids came with a White bottle and Carbon Fiber wrapped solonoids, so they look cool as hell to boot. Best bang for buck.

Just remember, you'll spend atleast $1k on a proper set-up. You will want a fuel solonoid shut-off for protection, rpm limitor for kick in and out, bottle warmer so you have consistent pulls and a blow-off valve.
FYI on the bottle warmer...One pull and your 900psi bottle will drop to about 650psi. It will take up to 3hrs in derect sunlight for a black bottle to get back up to 900psi because it'll be very cold and might even have frost on it. When I took my car out, I'd turn the bottle warmer on before leaving and it took 20min for it to heat up to temp. THAT MEANS you cannot do run after run with nitrous or you'll risk freezing the lines and could cause a bad situation.
I had $1200 invested into a very nice used kit and purchased the above saftey items as extras.
A 10lb bottle will last ~10pulls on a 100 shot and ~13pulls on a 75shot
Here in NY, there is 1 filling station nearby ONLY by word of mouth. Cost is $7 per lb which is insane.

Good luck.

A 97 Mustang GT. Ended up blowing the motor while running the N20 on the highway goin 168mph(29mph faster than stock..yeah it capped at 139mph stock) and installed a 32V Cobra engine and Supercharging it with 11psi. Put down 472rwhp & 468rwtq.
Apparently, N20 isn't good for long drawn out stretches like the highway...lol
Atleast my wife was in the car so she knew exactly what happened and approved of the Cobra motor/supercharger combo. Go big or go home right???..hehehe

I've been down both roads man. My zex kit crapped out lol. Just dumps fuel. I'd go NX.

Cam wise 268 all the way. My truck run NA 8.65 in 3200da 268 cam. Rcsb 4x4

but if you want a Spartan I have one on 112lsa with about 100 miles on it I'll sell.

Nitrous is all about the way you set it up. I run nitrous on my 4.7 and I have no problems. As long as you have your jetting right and don't drive like fast and the furious you should be fine. My kit is from cold fusion and it does good enough for me. I run mine with a wot switch so you are definitely under power while spraying.
