Default In A/C Hell

So i had to swap motors, which means the lines where removed. Air DID work prior to motor swap.

After swap i have had it vacuumed for about 25 minutes, then we put 20 oz's in it (2 10oz cans so i guess a little less than 20) and while running the truck the clutch did not turn on. I ran the motor and the air on high, still nothing. Ran the defroster, nothing.

I switched it on/off an high to low, nothing kicked on the clutch.

The condenser fan did turn on so that relay/fuse is working. I checked the AC fuse (i think 14 or 16) and it is fine. I checked the relay by swapping with another that works. I checked voltage on the relay, top right and bottom left (i think it was) where both hot.

I checked the sensor on the high side and both read out to 5 volts +/-

I jumped the white wire on the compressor with the truck off and it did engage.

I can turn the clutch so it is not locked up either.

There is no low side switch that is stopping it from opening. I have been reading for hours and going through the Chilton book and i guess i am just not seeing the next step.

Any help would be appreciated.

Oh sorry, it is a 2004 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi, automatic, 4WD, Laramie, tow package, off road package, not sure what else really matters but that should cover it.

Any other plugs i can check, fuses, relays, whatever

What is system capacity? 20 oz seems low to me plus u need to watch out for oil/ refridgerent
Content, may have been 2 oz oil 8oz freon in each can. System should have had at least a 45 min vac to remove all moisture.

IIRC a shop told me that those trucks have a 2lb capacity.

There is a sticker located in the engine compartment that gives the specific charge, and you shouldn't vary from that. There is also a sensor for freezing on the evap coil that shuts of the compressor when it frosts up. Weed has a downloadable FSM that details the whole cooling system, how it works etc----along with the rest of the truck---and its free!!!! That will answer all the questions

Sticker is 1lb 10 oz, 26 oz

Cans are 2 oz oil, 8 oz refrigerant

So as of now i have almost 4 oz oil and 16 oz refrig

I understand it is low but if i keep pumping it into the system without the clutch engaging and letting it into the condenser, the thing is going to blow from to much psi on the low side lol

Not unless you have a orfice/expansion valve problem, when system is off presures are equelized . Static presure for a fully charged system , 100psi round bouts. Fill it up

Don't add anymore oil , to much oil will kill compressor,
Unless u chemical flushed old oil out.

So basically hook another can to it, start the truck, turn on AC/Max AC on High and pump it in?

I am guessing clutch will kick on when there is enough refrig in the system?

Yes but don't add anymore oil. Get a can that's freon only
