Before you replaced the switch did you hear and feel it engage? Everyone on here says theres will engage just no light.

My 4x4 Ranger had the Switch break to.i took off the switch motor and stuck vice grips on it when i needed to switch to 4x4.

Yes, it is the switch. You need to get it from a dealer (maybe rock auto has it). It's a pretty easy swap out. Happened with my truck once.

But evryone is saying there 4x4 engages, wouldnt a fualty switch prevent that.

I was thinking the same thing, a faulty switch would prevent the 4wd from doing anything.

I mean the OP said that he can hear the transfer case clunk, he hasn't stated if he can feel that the truck is in 4wd... but if he is I am going stick to my guns about the light inside the cluster being burnt out....

Im with you cheap fixes first... then to the expensive stuff. Try thr bulb first. Heck if you want while you are there LED Cluster Lights look amazing and you can rreplace them all for under 20

Sorry, been away for a while. It was the switch on the xfer case. Which is elec not vac on the 05.

mine is the mechanical shifter ( leaver on the floor ) and yes it does go into 4x4 hi / low neutral and 2wheel it all works fine just the light dosn't come on in the dash .
2005 quad 4x4 can you send me in the right direction as to where the switch is on the T-case i have to get the gaurds off ( off road edtion ) to get up in there and fix this before the snow flies lol
