Default Newbie needs assistance asap

This is a big concern as tomorrow i have to drive to florida which is 14hrs from where im from.. i dont want to break down on the way so please help me.

What should i check out before leaving?

I have a 2004 dodge crew cab hemi. When i first got it it had a miss and i put new plugs, filter and EGR and ran seafoam through the brake booster on the truck and it ran great. now all the sudden every now and then when you start the truck it will miss pretty bad and you have to keep revving it to keep it started but once its cleared out it runs fine, i love the truck but i just dont under stand why they all seem to have issues like this..

What makes you think they all have issues like that? I've had mine since it was new. I have had to replace the EGR valve but that is all I have ever had to change, aside from general maintenance stuff, that has anything to do with how it runs.

You changed the plugs, did you change the coils or wires? Did you clean the MAF or anything else in that area? Do you run 89 octane gas that is ethanol free or use an ethanol additive?

They don't ALL have these issues. I've never owned any other vehicle half as long as I've owned my RAM. And I can tell you, if it had intermittent PITA issues like this, I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago.

this is my frist dodge gas truck i traded in my 01 cummins for it so im still new but i love the truck and dont want to get rid of it. im going by what local shops have said and i have two buddys with trucks like mine but thiers are 4x4 that has had alot of egr probs and thier trucks missing at idle. anyway thats besides the point i love the truck and want to keep and fix what ever is wrong. i actually only run 87 in the truck from the local walmart gas station usually. and i just changed all 16 plugs, egr, and air filter thats it.

specific throttle body cleaner is available in spray form.. I'd use that or contact brake cleaner.. I highly rec you use new gaskets, though you can get by with reusing the old one.. some folks don't even use one at all, but i highly recommend you do.. you can use the same sensors.. don't push the idle air control plunger any, it's location is mapped.. just spray and wipe the pejesus out of it.

it shouldn't take you any longer than half an hour to do the whole thing..

I wouldn't replace it.. aftermarket IAC's are hit-n-miss.. you may end up in hotter water than you currently are with the one you have..

now if you get one from the stealership, that is another story.. and don't believe the clowns behind the counter at parts stores.. they are lost without their little computers, and their computers are as stupid as they are most often..

I got one from advance and it was actually made better, the protective cage on the sensor was beefier. No issues with it for me, but that's not to say drew isn't correct. I only replaced mine because I broke the original. When you clean your throttle body hold the side with the electronics up at all times do not let anything drip in there. Make sure it's nonchlorinated brake cleaner as well. Its an easy job with plenty of how to's around.

And I haven't had a single issue with my 04 awd. No egr trouble no nothing. Only problem I ever had was the rear pinion seal started to leak. Owned since new, just rolled over 108k.
