Default advice

hi, i have a 2002 ram 1500 two wheel drive v8 . I just started getting a humming noise in the rear. I noticed my seals are leaking a bit, could that be the cause? I added fluid it was low and the noise is still there. If the seals are bad would it hum like it is? or could it be what?? I aint no mechanic so i could use your guys advice before i try and fix this myself. my wife wont allow me to get it fixed unless i fix it myself, shes tired of putting money in it, it has 200,000 miles. never missed an oil change or anything else it has ever needed. It is spotless and runs great other than this new problem. thank you

Low oil can cause premature wear. The damage could already be done. The damage being bearing and gears.

It cost me less than $200 to change the bearings myself, but I have all the proper tools to do so with ease. Get it fixed before it fails and costs you more money while leaving you on the side of the road waiting on a tow truck.....Or, keep a small cooler and a lawn chair with you just in case it does fail.
