Stalling on crappy roads
Hey there,
My truck is a 2002 Ram 1500 with the 5.9l 360 V8.
My issue: The truck will run beautifully on a regular basis EXCEPT when I travel down a sloppy muddy woods road or splash threw a puddle primarily on the right hand side of the truck. If such an event happens the truck begins to spit and sputter and unless i drop it down to first gear to do my best to keep the rpms up, often times it will stall. While driving in the rain or on wet, but not water covered roads, i have no issues. It only happens in those two scenarios, sloppy muddy roads or hitting deep puddles on the right hand side.
As soon as I get back to a good road or it seems like the underside dries off, it begins to run just fine again.
To potentially solve the issue i've done the following:
New high performance plugs
New Cap + Rotor
New cold air intake gasket
Replaced some aging vaccum lines
.... And more
A friend of mine suggested that the issue is a sensor on the back right hand side of the engine that is bad, or has a bad seal. Not sure what he called it.
If anyone has the slightest idea what the issue may be, I'd welcome and appreciate the help.

It could very well be the crank position sensor... It could also be that the sensor is fine, but the connector is not good and seated, or is cracked.. which would allow water in..
something else to look at, is the connections at the pcm being loose, or frayed..
Yet another is the coil getting wet or bouncing connection in such circumstances..

Ok I'll definitely look into that. The first time it happened I went under the hood while it was running bad and checked the coil and such. Was completely dry.
I'll take a look at it tomorrow.
Thank you very much.
