Default 03 Hemi water pump.

Going to replce my water pump this weekend.
The new pump has a rubber/silicon type gasket laid into a grove in the pump housing.
Do I need to run sealer along with the gasket when I instal this?
Or, is the rubberised type gasket more than enough? Especially when the mating surface is super clean and grease free making the sealer both un necessary and in fact it could make a problem, as I have read putting sealer un necessarily on surfaces can cause additional sealing problems??

generally, most captured o-rings only require a minimal coating of silicone grease to prevent pinching, and allow unrestricted movement for compression is used. be careful during the coating that you don't stretch the o-ring----kinda roll it around between your fingers

The gasket that comes with the pump is enough. I Mounted the gasket in the pump body then put a little RTV sealant at some of the sharp bends just to hold the gasket in place. There's a lot of room to work in front of the water pump but you do have to make a few small corrections to get everything lined up. Also, be sure to organize your bolts, they all have the same head size but are about 10 different lengths.

Thanks guys for the replys.
The new pump came with a new gasket already fitted in place.
I fitted it Saturday morning after a loooong nightshift on ambulance A&E duties. Along with new tensioner, idlers, serpentine belt and coolant. I used no sealant and gently tightend up the pump bolts very slowly and evenly.
Alks well so far and the engine is super quiet and leak free
Whew.

Yep....you were right. Also about the bolts
They're all different lengths as you said lol. I just put them into the new pump sat on the bench as I removed them.
Then, when I removed the old pump, put them back in that one so when the new pump was fitted I could transfer them back over into the correct place.
I'll put some pics up when I get time.
Cheers for the help.
