Tailgate Lock?
Standard response?
Call your insurance company.
If someone wanted it bad enough, I think they will get it no matter what method you use. The key here is to make it enough of an inconvenience for someone to move on to the next truck.
Sadly, stealing tail-gates is becoming VERY common-place all over. I'm gonna have to invest in something as I'm hearing about it around here lately.
My neighbor's mother lives in a fairly upscale trailer-park (if there is such a thing, LOL) not far from here and she told me the other night someone in a truck with a trailer stole about half a dozen of those all-steel steps they have to get into the trailers WITH THE PEOPLE HOME! They threatened a couple of seniors with violence if they tried to stop them! People are getting awfully brazen for things to steal and take to the scrapper these days!!! BTW, I'm told the cops responded - 1 1/2 hours later, about an hour after the perps were long gone!!!

Yes pretty common I think. My neighbour got his stolen a few years back and the cops told him guys were getting about $500 cash for them when they brought them in 'somewhere'. Especially white ones since they were most sought after by fleet guys. Pretty easy money considering you can take a short drive and pick up 3 or 4 in about an hour I'm sure. Can't remember if mine was parked outside or not that night but no doubt a close call.
So....I finally received a Bully locking tailgate latch. No better or worse in quality than the OEM handle.
I also put a worm gear clamp on the tailgate pivot.
That should slow 'em down enough to move to another poor, unsuspecting truck or at least **** them off in the process while they walk away with mine!

It is not make by Dodge but it works like a charm and is simple to install. For a 2008 Ram just point your browser to http://www.etrailer.com/Locks/Dodge/...eid=2008912756 and purchase. I got one for the same reason that you want one.

I have the perry ellis power lock on my tailgate. I love it, the tailgate is locked when you want it to be and unlocked when you don't. After a few months I had a bit of trouble with it sticking but sprayed some graphite lube on it and it has been flawless since, even at -25*C. We'll see how it works at -40, -45*C here in Jan and Feb though.
Yes..
