Hello All! I just wanted to say that this site is awsome! Anyway, new to the place here and needed some help. I will be buying a Ram in about 1-2 months, and need to know a few things.
1) If I get a reg. cab with the 4.7, will I have to morgtage my house to afford gas?
2) Hemi is out of the question
but does the 4.7 have decent power?
3) Does the SLT come with the V6? Or is it just the 4.7?
I'm sure that this is not the last of my newbie questions, but I appreciate the help!

4.7 is a fine motor, but don't expect super gas mileage and saving lots of money over the Hemi, especially with the prices soaring from Katrina. The 4.7 is standard on the QC SLT, I'm not sure about the RC SLT.

Not sure why you've ruled out the hemi. It has more power and gets better mileage than the 4.7L.
It's a $995 option. That's around 5% of the total cost of the truck depending on options.
I understand wanting to keep costs down but the hemi is a must have.

I would have gotten the HEMI if it was an option when I bought my truck.I was one of the first to buy a 3rd GEN ram.
The 4.7 has good power excellent mileage.Afterall,it is a V8. Aftermarket performance is a little harder to find but its out there.

The Hemi does not get better mileage than the 4.7. I got 16.3 MPG out of my 4.7 on the last full tank. That was with plenty of stop and go with some light hwy mix. Thats not old lady driving either. Plenty of time driving between 55-70 mph. No hemi is going to touch that average. If they say they can they will have to show up at my driveway and let me drive their truck like I drive mine and prove it to me. The average hemi is only going to get between 12-14 on its best day of average mixed driving. Thats if the hemi guys dont punch it alot.

1st. sgt. While everyone else is b.s.ing about their engine getting better gas mileage cause that is what they have in their truck, I will tell you form experience having owned a truck with a 4.7 and presently owning a hemi, that the 4.7 will get between 1-2 mpg better than a hemi!!! Not a huge diff. but if you drive a lot it could save you some money at the pump. But if your towing heavy loads go with the hemi cause the 4.7 will have to work harder, meaning more gas. Hope I answered your question.
