Any update on this?

My truck is starting to have this problem as well. I just get random the random "ding," and only part of the time the "lamp out" indicator will come on. Other times it's just the "ding" noise.

I replaced both of the tailight boards. the first time i drove the truck with the lights on, when i turned them on i heard a single ding and saw the light. but it never happened while driving. the same thing happens when i drive the truck now. it only sounds once when i first put the lights on. I am now always driving with the lights on just to see what happens.

i did see that the prior owner had cut into the tailight wiring for something, like a truck cap light. one of the wires was cut and put back together with wire nuts. the other had one of those blue clips that cuts into the outer coating so you can conect it to another wire. i removed the clip and am going to try to solder the connections and heat tape them. but, they are clean and should not be causeing an electrical problem.

So now i am wondring if i need to start replacing the harness connector for the headlight and parking lights up front? when i replaced those bulbs though, they looked perfect. another thing, if it is a voltage issue, would a set of LED tailights fix this? i dont like them, and they are costly, but if that is all i can do it is worth me not driving the truck off a cliff...lol.

if this keeps up, my next questions is this.....how do i disable the damn speaker for the dinging noise...lol!!! I am serious though, i would like to diable the sound until i can figure this out.

As an aside, i also have noticed that the truck makes a ding sound with no lights when the washer fluid is low.

with regards to the lamp out issue.

no luck. the problem still persists just as before. it comes on about halfway through my 30 min drive to work, lasts about a minute and may or may not come back on. I guess i could start disconnecting harnesses and see if that fixes it to try and isolate the problem. i am at a loss, i begin 2 months of working 7 days a week now and am out of time to fix this. any advice? would led tails help? at this point, all of the external bulbs are new (except the fog lights but i dont have them on) and replaced the tailight bulb boards. it doesnt matter if the headlights are on or off. wtf??

seriiously though, how can i disconnect the buzzer, just so i can make it through the winter and fix it in the spring?

I converted my reverse lights to 100w h3s. Wired them completely independently for the most part. Only things I used from the old setup were: the socket still grounds the bulb, and the old 12v supply for the reverse now triggers my relay. Occasionally I'll get the ding and bulb out light, but it's only for a fraction of a second. I even went as far as wiring a load resistor in before the relay to simulate the old bulb. Any ideas?

i will replace the brake light i missed on top of the cab and the last original fog light (i replaced one last year due to a cracked lens). but i have no hope that this will fix anything since both are currently working. what bothers me the most is that it seems that this is such a mysterious problem. I do not feel comfortable with re-wiring the tailights (but good job!) and i also feel that this kind of problem is absurd. And if it was the only one of its type with my truck, i probably would not care than much. Unfortunately, this is just one in a long string of annoying things to go wrong. Thank got for the hemi, since whenever i feel like junking the damn truck, I just put the pedal to the floor and listen to that sweet sound!

And just so I dont sound like i am being overly critical, the electrical issues i have had to date: well this one, the window lock switch breaking, then 2 years later the door lock switch on the replacement switch panel working intermittently, window heater stopped working and the HVAC **** lights will go out and a smack on the dash gets them to work again. this on top of general maintentance and other mechanical issues (02 sensor, PS pump, idler pulleys etc...) outside of the hemi and the comfy seats, owning this truck has not been a pleasure.

But even with all this, there is just something i love about my ram! Just dont know if I would ever get into buying another used one again.

do a c-code check... there is a possibility the circuit will be identified by doing so..

hold the tripometer button while turning the ignition on.. reference the code, and maybe it will tell you which one it is..

the first two numbers are the code- the second two are number of key cycles since it's happened..

after the bulbs are swapped, and boards have been replaced, it's time to start looking at harnesses.. it could be a rubbed wire anywhere along it's length.. which sucks trying to root out..

Well I think I have this figured out. After everything, the lamp out light came on and stayed on long enough for me to see that the front passenger light assembly was out. Jiggling the wires made it come on. I redid the ground connection right next to the air cleaner and it seems to be fine! It hasn't happened in 2 days of driving w the lights on. I am so Damn excited that this is fixed. And well if it isn't, I now know at least the area that the short is in.

Either you have a bad brake switch located just above the pedal, or you had a fault and your TIPM turned off the brake circuit(silly).

I'd check your brake switch. It's a cheap and easy part to replace.
