Send it to get flow tested, unless you can hook up the fuel pump to the rail and the injectors and have the pump fire the injectors...

Not as easy with the whole motor apart...

Diesel is the equivalent of 50 octane.... 87 is the lowest you can get at almost any pump gas station... read what I wrote....

It's a 4.7l v8... Read his post.....
Anywho...... Somewhere along the line there's been detonation/lean condition.
But I don't want to start any war or get away from the op's issue.
So ill stop postin.

Could've swore it was a 3.7L this morning when I first replied... regardless they suggest 87 octane for the 4.7L so my point remains. Unless he used Diesel he can't get any lower octant than 87!

OP, the visual appears to be a long term lean condition, you also may want to check the intake runner for any cracks, there have been a few of them reported. I'm surprised that with that lean condition, the computer didn't throw a code, or even possibly backfire through the intake. You may also want to get the head penetrant dye tested, (equivalent of a magnefluxing) for cracks that may open up more with heat-------its gonna be something surrounding that cylinder. Pull the valves and look for cracks around the seats, also make sure the valve doesn't show any even remote signs of gaulling on the stem. May be good to check for any intake manifold bolts that may have pulled threads, or possibly bad intake gasket----just some thoughts.

You canget an FSM for that engine package FREE--------from Weedahoe on his sig, it will need to be downloaded, the under the 4.7, it will give you "THEIR" IDEAS for problems
Hope you get it figured out---tough break for the owner unless it gets warranteed.

5 of the 8 fuel injectors are cracked verticle...some have 2 or more cracks in the plastic housing.....does this say anything?

i removed both valves on the cylinder that is fried.....very clean with hardly any cabon build up.....this is telling me antifreeze was getting burnt

i remved the valves on the adjacent cylinder ....these valves are completly sluged with carbon....this tells me the low ocatane fuel was ****ty

does a cracked injector cause a lean condition....? its inbetween the sealing o-rings

You sir had coolant cause massive lean conditions resulting in detonation... this is a result of poor maintenance... not many warranties will cover that...

Many things can cause a lean condition:

Coolant Reducing Compression can cause it

Fouled Plugs can cause it

Bad Injector can cause it

all of those result in detonation... my bet is there was a DTC everytime it happened and the owner ignored it....

Yes,

The cracks can cause a serious problem, but it should show up in the others too. It sounds like mentioned above, that some issues may have been ignored while the problems were occuring, as these things have more ***n sensors and computers than the space shuttle.
I wouldn't hesitate replacing both sides---sucks but damages like that can sometimes come back to haunt you later---time for a fresh start.

If you have any of the old antifreeze left, you might check that for and products of combustion, and PH to determine condition of that

Good Luck!!

UPON REMOVING OF THE VALVES IN CYLINDERS #5 & #7 I FOUND CYLINDER 7 TO BE HYDROWASHED SO TO SPEAK, COMPARING IT TO CYL #5 IT IS
VERY CLEAN WITH ALMOST NO CARBON. THEREFORE, I AM POSITIVE THAT COOLANT WAS IN CYLINDER #7 CLEANING IT OUT.....ALSO, LETS SAY THE CUSTOMER HAS BEEN RUNNING 87 OCTANE,....AND WE KNOW THE ENGINE HAS CARBON ON THE TOP OF THE PISTONS AND ON THE VALVES, DOESNT CARBON INCREASE THE COMPRESSION? YES, IT DOES...THEREFORE WE HAVE HIGHER COMPRESSION AND NOW HAVE ADDED COOLANT TO THE MIXTURE OF AN ALREADY LOW OCTANE FUEL...THUS REDUCING THE OCTANE DOWN TO ...LETS SAY 80 OR 78 OCTANE....NOW WE HAVE SPARK KNOCK ( PREDETONATION) (PINGING) CAUSING A LEAN CONDITION WITH HIGHER COMPRESSSION, LOWER OCTANE....AND PREDETONATION CAUSING HEAT IN THE CENTER OF THE PISTON, THUS BURNING A HOLE DIRECTLY IN THE MIDDLE

THESE ARE MY FINDINGS AND I HOPE YOU CONCUR

THANK YOU ,
