Yeah, I hear you, Hammer. Lots of moving parts inside a tranny. I think for most of us, the inner workings are a mystery. Which is why I'm considering installing a new tranny and then rebuilding the broken one with my free time, just so I can explore it.

I couldnt think of a better way. Either way you are going to spend the same amount of money replacing one. But to have another to really learn on would be awesome

I actually just rebuilt a 45RFE transmission 4 months ago. I just took my time and took plenty of pictures for reference. A 545RFE is the same thing, but Chrysler added another forward gear. Going back together takes some special tools though. It took me about three days to get it out, rebuilt, and back in. Well five counting the time spent waiting for parts.

You made pretty quick work of it. 3 days is respectable. Was removal of the tranny difficult at all? Any words of wisdom you can impart?

Just dont try to move to fast. I did it as part of class and there were people that went to fast on the assembly and misplace one small part and it destroyed the transmission when they put it back in the car. Other than that just keep everything organized. And good luck!
