Default 2004 Ram 1500 Quad 4X4 - BUMPY on Highway! Help!

OK, I know this topic has been beaten like a dead horse, but I wanted to throw out my unique situation. Hopefully someone will help me figure this out. I just purchased a used 04 Quad 4X4 with 72,000 miles. The truck itself handles well, does not have vibrations in the steering, and overall seems to be a nice truck. However, when I am driving on the highway, going over bumps the truck just bounces too much. They are those fast bounces that make your voice rattle and your head ache.

OK, the truck has the original facotry shocks on it, so I am going to go ahead and guess that these things need to be tossed? If so, what are the best shocks to get for a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 Quad 4X4 with 20 inch wheels on it? Does having the 20 inch wheels make a big difference? Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I cannot show up to work every morning with a headache! Thanks.

no, what you are likely experiencing is called "Death Wobble"

Search that on the Forum's search box there and you will find out that you can help prevent that feeling by getting a steering stabilizer bar.

if that stabilizer bar doesn't help then your shocks might be bad (or just too soft), but that is my bet on what is happening.

I have read about this "death wobble" and what I am experiencing does not seem as drastic as that. I am not having any problems in the steering, and it is not going from side-to-side, it is just too bouncy. This seems like a common problem on other forum threads I have read. Are you saying I should take it in to get it checked?

If you are mechanically inclined and know what to look for, do it yourself and save some $.....

Otherwise take it to a REPUTABLE shop that knows dodge trucks... that is my suggestion.

Mine does the same thing when I'm at highway speeds and it seems to be normal for our trucks so I never thought twice about it....
