Default 4wd lock Problems

Maybe someone can help me out. I've had my 4wd low light flicker on and off a couple times. Shifted to nuetral and cycled the 4wd switch, and it has gone away. Tonight when I started the truck, the 4wd light was on. I cycled the switch and it went out. When turning off the truck, I hear the 4wd actuating once the engine shuts down. It is doing this all the time now. When I restart the truck, you can hear them actuating again. I think I read they are operated by vacum hose. Any help would be appreciated. Truck is 2006 1500 TRX4, 5.7L quad cab. 4wd switch on dash.

After some searching, it appears that I need a Front axle disconnect actuator. I have not had the service light come on, but the 4wd low light is still flickering now and then. Every time the truck is started, you can hear the actuator operating, and the same once the truck is turned off. If anyone has had the same problem, maybe you could let me know. Thanks.

Ram,

There was a TSB that may possibly apply. If it does, call customer assistance (800-992-1997) and ask if the will cover it. It's worth a shot. TSB below.

NUMBER: 03-001-07
GROUP: Differential &

Default One more Question on this.

Surprise! Dodge would do nothing on this problem other than making an appointment for service. The question I have is, Has anyone had these symptoms, and it turned out to be the software was the problem, and not the actuator? I already ordered an actuator. $126.00 online, but am gonna be torqued if I replace it and find out it's not the culprit. Either way, Dodge dealer wanted $100.00 just to plug in the scanner. Just curious if anyone has had the problem actually be the software and not the actuator? Thanks!

Replaced the actuator, disconnected the battery, I STILL have the same problem. 4WD light coming on when not switched, 4LOW flashing at times, service 4WD on occasionally, 4WD neutral engaging at times. While driving, I get the 4WD light flash at times and the 4Low flash at times. The other problems are while in park or neutral. Am I gonna have to go to the dealer. My local mech says they are the only one around that can change the software.
Even though I have disconnected the battery for well over 15 minutes, the radio presets are still in memory, but the time resets. Do I need to leave the battery disconnected longer?
This is not fun any longer!

Another question. Just prior to this, replaced all the plugs with autolite platinum. From reading, they might cause problems, but I couldn't see how this would cause a problem, but seems like a huge coincidence.

I changed my plugs and wires on my old 2001 2500 5.9 gas and I then had trouble with the 4 wheel drive. It turned out that the vacumn line going to the actuator that locked in the front hubs had got against the exhaust manifold and burned a hole in it. Thus no 4 wheel drive. I had a dash light showing something on the 4 wheel, but it has been long enough ago I don't remember exactly what it was. Maybe the 4 wheel light came on, but it wasn't locking. Just a thought since you changed plugs also. Since yours seems to be bleeding off it might warrant an inspection of that line.

No vacumn line on my actuator. Something I'm missing. I should have bought a Haynes manual while at the store!

Just take the damn thing in and have them fix it. In most cases they will wave the diog fee when they do the repair. The fee covers their time and machine for those who want them to them what is wrong so they can go elsewhere or fix it themselves
