Default winding noise

Recently had my front end worked on my 06 ram 2500. One thing I had worked on was the inner axle seals. After there was a winding sound gets louder as speed increases. thought it might be stuck in 4 wheel, but it isnt. Mechanic told me that the seal has to broke in. I put a 1000 miles on it and sounds the same. Any thoughts?

Bring it back, something is wrong. Seals would never make that noise and do not need to be broken in!! I hope he gave you more than a 1,000 mile warranty. If you have been driving that long with a sound like you describe, you may have more of a problem than just seals at this point.

Not normal. No break in procedure with seals either. If there was such a thing, rubber is soft and you'd never ever hear it in a vehicle like yours. Whining is metal-metal sound. Sorta sounds like bearing failure but is hard to diagnose from your perspective diagnosis.

Thanks guys. I called the mechanic back and told him. He said he thought it could be the slack in the spider gears. Does that sound right?

Sounds like you need a new mechanic.

He could of pulled the wheele bearing off wrong, or the axl spline was rusted on the inner hub bearing. Then used a puller to get it off and put flat spots on the hub bearings and races. Or the outher axl bearing ( before the u-joint ) got messed up while he was prying the seal out. Rurt or dirt got in the bearing there. Just my thoughts
