Default questions about putting in an after market stereo.

I have an 07 mega cab 3500 and its got the steering wheel controls and the u connect feature i was just wondering if putting an after market stereo like a double din dvd player would get rid of those functions?

i cannot answer for the U connect, but for the steering wheel controls you have to by an adapter to wire into those controls from what i know

It heavily depends on the radio. Most radios and conversion kits that I have seen actually use infrared emitters like a remote. So for example, if you radio does not support a remote (infrared or wired) it would very likely be impossible to use the steering wheel controls. If your radio supports an infrared remote (more common than wired), the conversion kit plugs into the harness for the steering wheel controls, and you have to mount the little LED emitter somewhere that it can reach the radio. It's not fun. And on top of it, unless its built specifically for your radio, you need a remote to program it. As for U connect, that's built into the radio. You'll be giving that up.

TLDR version; If your radio supports it, you can. Its just a lot of hidden costs dicking around to make it work.

Shouldn't need LED anything. Go to crutchfiled.com and look it up they have a couple listed for your truck.
