Default oil change message

Does the oil change message come on when the truck reaches a set mileage or when the oil is dirty? I reset my message but it hasn't come on for some time now. Probably 6,000 miles give or take. I checked the oil and it looks clean. Any thoughts guys?

I believe it comes on based upon mileage and driving habits to tell you when it thinks it needs an oil change. If you reset it, then it thinks you changed the oil and begins to recalculate from there for the next time it thinks you need an oil change.

BINGO!

It is not reliable in the slighted... I usually do my oil changes at 3,000 miles and reset the stupid thing just so it doesn't annoy me down the road.

If you're using full synthetic oil then you might be able to go up to 5,000 miles but that's your call... I'm actually just about due for another oil change myself, but the message will not come on.
